don’t let your situation determine your disposition

this week has been challenging. a bunch of random things have been thrown my way and in reflecting i have been able to maintain a positive mood in spite of it. it has actually worked not only to my benefit but to the benefit of my patients and others around me as well. i have been able to share the perspective that being successful in the way we live our lives is about learning the skill of management. undoubtably we can count on being hit with random and not so random challenges that alter the way we live our lives at any given moment. thus, it makes no sense for us constantly assume nothing negative is ever supposed to happen to us and be shocked and appalled when it does. yes! we will experience our emotions and have our moments but essentially being successful in living life is really based on learning how to manage your mood and perspective by not allowing your current situation dictate how you see yourself and your life overall. the elders always said “this too shall pass” and they were right. things come and go; we have ups and downs. but still we rise.
